Quay wall and Port

The CSO Terminal in Sohar has a quay wall of 700 m. The entire port basin has a draft of 18 m. Break bulk, Bulk, as well as Ro/Ro vessel can be (un)loaded at the CSO quay wall.

Terminal

The terminal / storage yard is 700 m long (alongside the quay wall), 500 m wide and a total of 35 Ha. The entire area is fenced (10 feet incl. barbed wires) and lightening poles covering the paved area have been installed.

Three tugs are permanently available in the port. The tugs are operated by Switzer Wijsmuller.

Equipment

The lifting equipments available at the CSO terminal consists of:

  • Two (2) mobile rubber tired shore cranes (One Liebherr and one Gottwald crane), with maximum lifting capacity of 80 Mtons.
  • A fleet of forklifts, ranging from 3 – 30 Mtons.
  • Several reach-stackers. These devices are used for handling of containers, as well as top-lifting of general cargo.
  • Terminal tractors, container trailers and 60 and 80 Mton Mafi-trailers.
  • All accessories to handle piping material with ‘tevlon-coated’ hooks, structurals, containers (automatic spreaders) and general cargo with steel wires and/or nylon slings, steel plates with hooks, spreaders, etc.

Weigh Bridges


At the entrance gate of the CSO Terminal 2x weigh bridges are provided. There is a weigh bridge for incoming trailers as well as one for trailers exiting the terminal. Each weigh bridge is officially calibrated, linked to our computer system and both have a capacity of 120 Mton.

Warehousing

CSO has a 5,000 m² warehouse on their terminal premises. Dimensions warehouse 40 x 125 m and a height of 8 m. On both short sides there is a door of 14 m width and both long sides have 2x doors of 7 m width.
Ground baring capacity is 4 MT / m².
Warehouse has been approved by Oman Civil Defense.

Open storage

If cargo is to stay longer on the terminal or if it is planned to use part of the terminal for storage or marshalling of cargo, a dedicated area can be provided. Services such as order picking, warehouse administration, etc. can be offered. Storage charges may be negotiated.
Operations (personnel)
All ‘local’ operational personnel have been trained according to the highest Dutch standards, by the Rotterdam International Maritime Institute STC (Shipping & Transport College).

STC, in joint verture with the Government of Oman, has established the company IMCO, a new Maritime Training Institute in Oman.

Documentation

During discharge, transhipment or loading operations, extensive documentation is made by tally department of CSO. Documentation consists of:

Daily Discharge report1

Report shows information on: start of operation, discharged / loaded cargo per day (and remaining balance on board), counting from 07.30 AM – 07.30 AM (next day), remarks if any.

Final Discharge report

Report shows information on: start of operation, completion of operation, equipments used during operations, delay hours (incl. reason for delay), used manpower, remarks if any (discrepancies, incidents, etc.).
A final discharge report will at all times be signed / acknowledged by Captain of vessel. This means in practice that final discharge report will be finished prior sailing of vessel.

Damage report (if any)

Report shows information on: damages (whatever kind) during discharge, incl. photos, etc.

Terminal Security, ISPS, Bonded Area, IT, Infrastructure

Terminal Security

CSO Terminal is entirely fenced. The terminal has one point of entry and one point of exit. At any single time there are 4 security officers present at the Terminal.

Details of incoming trucks, trailers (incl. relevant plate numbers) and truck drivers (incl. copy of resident card) to be submitted to Security Officer prior arrival of the same at the Terminal.

Bonded Area

CSO Terminal can be described as a Designated Bonded Area. Customs inspection is available on site (customs office located at CSO Terminal offices). Designated storage site comprises of the entire area within outer fence (700 x 500 m). CSO can operate under the same principals as a Free Trade Zone, thus eliminating the additional handling of material required when bringing the same to a designated free Trade Zone (Special economic Zone).

All cargoes stored at CSO Terminal only require Customs Clearance prior departure from Terminal.

ISPS

CSO Terminal has been examined and approved according to current ISPS rules.

IT

CSO has an in-house logistical information system in place. Our system interlinks all data concerning operations, commercials (tally), financials and statistics.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure in Port is in place. At present Heavy Lift operators as well as standard trucks trailers do not encounter any difficulties reaching main highway from CSO Terminal or any other place within the Sohar Industrial Port area.
